UT Tyler Students Present Research Posters at Singapore Conference
Two students from U.T. Tyler participated in the Futuropolis 2058: Creating Sustainable Urban Environments through Innovation Conference held October 21 – 22, 2008 in Singapore. The students presented the results of their undergraduate research activities conducted under the supervision of faculty mentors during the LSAMP Summer Research Academy. Posters were presented by Abby Roth (senior Chemistry major – faculty mentor Dr. Tanya Shtoyko – hometown Wills Point, Texas) and Heather McBride (senior Chemistry major – hometown Tyler, Texas).
Dr. Stephen B. Rainwater, Interim Chair and Chandler Professor of Computer Science, accompanied Ms. Roth and Ms. McBride in his role as campus director of the U.T. Tyler Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) program.
In addition to the conference, the U.T. Tyler delegation visited Singapore Management University and the National University of Singapore.
The UT-LSAMP program is supported by the National Science Foundation and provides undergraduate research experiences in an effort to increase the number of underrepresented students pursuing graduate level studies in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programs.
UT Tyler Student Researchers Participate at UT-LSAMP Conference
Students from The University of Texas at Tyler recently presented research during the 2008 UT System Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Undergraduate Research Conference held at UT El Paso, Dr. Steve Rainwater, interim chair and Chandler professor of computer science, announced.

Six New Faculty Members at UT Tyler in the fall
Dr. Kazem Mahadavi, Professor of Computer Science, joined our college from the Collge of Arts and Sciences. He received his Ph.D. from State University of New York Binghamton.
Dr. David Hoe, Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering, joined our college from the University of Texas at Arlington. He received his Ph. D. from University of Toronto.
Dr. Lin, Professor and Chair of Mechanical Engineering, joined our college from the University of Akron. He received his Ph.D. from University of Illinois at Chicago.
Dr. Hector Ochoa, Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering obtained a faculty position after teaching in the Electrical Engineering department. He received his Ph. D. from University of Texas at El Paso.
Dr. Sara McCaslin, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering obtained a faculty position after teaching in the Computer Science department. She received her Ph. D. from University of Texas at Arlington.
Dr. M. Sathyamoorthy, Associate Dean and Professor of Mechanical Engineering joined our college from his previous position as Associate Provost. He received his Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology. |
